jan 1, 1618 - Defenstration of Prague
Description:
This is the second "defenestration" of Prague. The catalysts of this event were when Matthias, the current head of government at the time was old and without children, and, when he made his cousin, Ferdinand II head. Ferdinand was a proponent of the Catholic Counter-Reformation and not likely to be well-disposed to Protestantism or Bohemian freedoms. Before this, the Habsburg's did not enforce their religion onto Bohemia. Because of this, Bohemian citizens rejected any royal authority due to the religious reformation. While previous Kings allowed Bohemia to do as they please belief-wise, Ferdinand did not and this started the Defenstration of Prague. This contributed greatly to the Thirty Years War.
