The Boston Tea Party was a political protest against "taxation without representation" imposed on the colonists by the British. The Townshend Act had been passed, which taxed paint, paper, glass, lead, and tea. The Sons of Liberty performed an act of defiance against the British by dumping 342 chests of British tea into the harbor, disguised as Native Americans.
