The photographs of the future Raïss (Saddam) on a diplomatic trip to Paris in 1972 and of Arif visiting the Shah of Iran and Farah Diba in Tehran in 1967 show Al Ani as a photographer with a hybrid profile.
I was part of the press team on his first trip to France as vice-president in 1972. We didn’t mix with him outside of official appearances. Overall he left us alone, he was fine.

Anachronistic for Latif's images. Since Saddam's regime was the reason for him to leave, he photographed him, but his career ended with him.
