sep 21, 1792 - The Convention is Established
Description:
The Convention is named following the American Constitutional Convention.
The Convention's first act is to declare France a republic (the monarchy has fully been deposed).
In the sans-culottes, lower middle class Jacobin radicals, are able to gain significant control in the Convention. They advocated for price control and were adamantly against inequality. Hardship had left them bitter and unruly. They were extremely hostile against wealth, prestige, and power. Even representative government was highly suspicious.
After the Flight to Varrenes, Jacobin moderates who had held prior significant power cooperated with the unruly sans-culottes in order to keep the revolution alive. The Girondists who did not cooperate, would be ousted from power, and considered inssuficiently reformist. Some would even be executed.
