Description:
5 rock-throwing colonial rioters were killed by redcoats
Causes:
British soldiers had pitched tents on Boston Common (colonial complaints led to the modification of the Quartering Act such that British officers could only quarter their soldiers in public places, not in private homes). Rioters started provoking the British officers until the violence escalated and the agitated British officers fired their muskets
Effects:
5 people died, Redcoats were hated in Boston, a the incident became an important piece of patriotic propaganda
