George Grenville, a prominent British politician, is appointed Prime Minister. Believed the colonies could be taxed in order to help mitigate the war debt.

Causes:
He had been a prominent politician for many years leading up to the resignation of the previous Prime Minister (Lord Brute).

Effects:
Starts passing new navigation taxes unto the colonies (Molasses, Sugar, Currency, Stamp) not just to regulate trade, but in order to raise money.
Garners much opposition in the colonies and was one of the factors that led to the American Revolution
