Carlton's efforts paid off, as in 174, the British Government made the Quebec Act. Now the French were able to practice their religion, allow Catholics become a political position without giving up their religion, use their own civil law, restore their seigneurial system, and last but not least have an increase of territory, although it was the land of the First Nations form the Proclamation
