The English novelist known by her male pseudonym George Eliot was actually called Mary Ann Evans and had been born in 1819 in southwestern Britain on a rural property managed by her father. His first complete novel, in 1857, was Adam Bede, with immediate success, which increased the interest to know the real person who was hiding behind the pseudonym George Eliot, so she had to reveal that she was the author. One of the biggest in the Victorian era.
