jan 3, 1948 - Civil war in Burna

Description:

(1948-?)
The Burmese armed conflict is a civil war that has been going on in Burma since the country's independence in 1948. Successive central governments fought against a myriad of separatist and communist rebellions. The first insurgencies against the Burmese state are those of the Burmese Communist Party and the Karen National Union (KNU), which fights for the independence of a Karen state in southern Burma. Other ethnic rebellions erupted in the early 1960s after the central government refused to consider a federated state. Since the early 1980s, however, far-left insurgencies have largely disappeared, notably because of the collapse of communism in Europe and the disintegration of the USSR at the end of the cold war.
