The 1947-1948 Civil War in Mandatory Palestine runs from November 30, 1947 to May 15, 1948, during the last six months of the British Mandate over Palestine. This period is the first phase, or the prelude, of the 1948 Arab-Israeli war, also known as the 1948 Palestine War. This is a civil war because the two groups it essentially opposes, Arabs and Jews of Palestine, depend on the same central power. After May 15, the inter-Palestinian conflict evolved into an inter-state war between Israel and several Arab states.
