Description:

The Selma to Montgomery March was a series of civil-rights protests. It was a 54 mile march from Selma to Montgomery. Dr. Martin Luther King participated in the march. The protesters were confronted along the way of their march by white vigilantes and local law enforcement but the protesters were protected by National Guard troops. This march raised awareness to the difficulties of being a black voter and that there needed to be a national Voting Rights Act.
