On this day, the Treaty of Tordesillas was signed. The treaty resolved a territorial conflict between the Portuguese and Spanish. These countries had been arguing about what territory belonged to who. The treaty split the world into 2 parts. On the western side, the land was Spanish and on the eastern side, the land was Portuguese. The treaty also anticipated Ferdinand Magellan's discovery that the world was round.Added to timeline:
