jan 21, 1765 - Stamp Act of 1765

Description:

The Stamp Act was passed by the British to go along with their other acts such as the Sugar Act of 1764, and the Quartering Act of 1765. These acts were passed in order to pay off their war debts. These acts were extremely unpopular among the colonists, and they fought to reverse them. The most unpopular one, was the Stamp Act, which made the colonists had to have a stamp and had to pay in order to get official papers stamped, these included playing cards, newspapers, and even diplomas. All of the uproar led to the Stamp Act Congress in October of 1765, where they would discuss how to try and get the Stamp Act repealed. They began boycotting, and the organization of the Daughters of Liberty and the Sons of Liberty were made to fight against the people who implemented the Stamp Act.
