On September 11th, 2001, 4 planes were hijacked in the air by members of the al-Qaeda terrorist organization. Two planes were hijacked and were flown in the towers of the World Trade Center, another plane was flow into the Pentagon, and another plane was being flown toward the capital of Washington D.C. when passengers overtook the pilot and sent the plane crashing into the ground. This attack was orchestrated by Osama Bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda. This attack sent shockwaves through the nation and Islamophobia reached its peak. These attacks led to the revamping of airport security, as well as a continuation of action in the Middle East.Added to timeline:
