jan 25, 1828 - Jackson Wins the Presidency

Description:

As the 19th Century rolled around, the United States face harassment by Britain on the seas as they impressed American soldiers. Tensions were also heightened because of British support of Native American tribes fighting Americans. The U.S. had enough of this treatment by 1812 as they declared war on Britain aiming to stop their expansion, impressment, and take Canada. In this three way war with France who also bullied America, there was no clear victor and the Treaty of Ghent simply stopped conflict and British impressment. The war was however very significant in the U.S. gaining international respect for stepping up and triggered a wave of nationalism that triggered the era of good feelings.
