jan 25, 1775 - The Shot Heard Round the World

Description:

British General Gage and local Loyalists created a plan to seize the Concord militia’s gunpowder. Paul Revere and William Dawes caught word of these plans and warned residents and the militia, racing on horseback. This tension was caused by mounting anger of the colonists with British rule, taxes, and the Coercive Acts, while the British conceded nothing. The British forces and colonial militia met as the sun was rising and as the militia refused to disperse, a shot was fired and fighting ensued. While it is not know who fired the shot, it led to a series of deadly battles and the militia successfully pushing back British forces that day and the beginning of the Revolutionary War.
