apr 19, 1675 - King Philip's War Erupts

Description:

Wampanoag chief Metacomet (King Philip) grew angry of colonial campaigns to convert Native Americans, and the rapid spread of colonists throughout New England. As tensions spilled over, both Wampanoags and colonists fought throughout New England, dominated by many Indian raids. The Narragansett Indians eventually joined on the side of Metacom in what would be an extremely bloody conflict. Around 3,000 Indians died as did 1,000 colonists. The colonists were eventually victorious. This conflict deeply worsened relations between colonists and Indians as it would for decades on, and furthered the oppression of Indians as losing tribes were disbanded, died from disease, executed, or sold into slavery.
