Description: The Louisiana Purchase was a purchase made by President Thomas Jefferson of the Louisiana Territory from the French.
Causes: President Jefferson wanted to buy Louisiana Territory to expand his Anti-Federalist ideologies. Also, France was in huge debt after war, so the purchase help them pay off the debt. President Jefferson paid the French $15 million.
Effects: Led to new American settlements. Also resulted in the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Also contributed to the idea of Manifest Destiny, which was a belief that Americans held about Christ wanting them to expand westward. It also doubled the size of American territory.
