Kenrick’s 2016 Grammy Win for ‘Best Rap Album’ was a momentous occasion for him. At this point in his career, he has received the support and recognition that he deserves for his contribution to hip-hop and his community. Like always, Kendrick thanks God first stating, “All glory to God for sure” (Grammys 2016), realizing that he could not have secured this win without him. God plays in his life and art. As he thanks his parents, girlfriend and God, you can tell his roots and foundations are in them. He references their loyalty and understanding in him, which has motivated and inspired him to create masterpieces like, "To Pimp A Butterfly". Lastly, he thanks his producer, mentor and friend Top Dawg, who “took [him] out of the hood and allowed [him] to be the best that he could be” (Grammys, 2016). Kendrick dedicates this award to his fans.
