The Ku Klux Klan was a white supremecist group that formed due to the new freedoms and rights that African Americans had gained. They committed heinous hate crimes against African Americans constantly, which discouraged the rise of new rights for them and propoted the "purity" of the States. Overcoming this despicable group was especially hard for African Americans during this time, and put a massive dent in reconstruction efforts.
