feb 4, 1868 - President Andrew Johnson was impeached.

Description:

President Andrew Johnson was the first to apply reconstruction efforts; however, he later neglected the citizenship African Americans and allowed white citizens to have their way with the African Americans. Because of his negligent habits and overall limited efforts towards reconstruction, he was eventually impeached. This brought forth the opportunity for American citizens to come under new political power, which may have presented a leader who promoted reconstruction efforts instead of neglected them.
