Description:

One day after being convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers and sentenced to death by the French National Convention, King Louis XVI was executed by guillotine in the Place de la Revolution in Paris. After a two-day trial begun, Marie Antoinette was convicted by the Revolutionary Tribunal of high treason and was also executed by guillotine on the Place de la Révolution in Paris. The beginning of the Reign of Terror began to purge France of enemies of the Revolution and protect the country from foreign invaders.
