Description:

John Brown, a white abolitionist, led a raid on Harpers Ferry. His goal would be to retrieve weapons in order to arm slaves and go against slavery.
Causes: Slavery was gradually becoming a much more prominent form of labor. John Brown had previous revolts, including Bleeding-Kansas in 1856. He advocated “armed insurrection.”
HI: Shortly after, on December 2, John Brown was hung for treason and Murder in Virginia. Not only this, but this raid was strongly considered one of the major events that led to the Civil War.
