jul 17, 1632 - Founding of the Maryland Colony
Description:
After the successful; creation of the Virginia Colony, the King of England granted a chunk of land to Lord Baltimore, this land would be what we know as Maryland. This was the first proprietary colony to be set up by the British, which meant that the owner could control the means of which the colony ran. The land was ruled by a Catholic family, but the Protestants were rebelling against their rule. This lead to the Toleration Act of 1649, which allowed freedom of religion, on the basis that they had to be worshiping Jesus Christ.
