nov 11, 1620 - Pilgrims of the Plymouth Colony

Description:

The pilgrims first arrived in Massachusetts in late 1620, similar to Jamestown it was settled by a group of investors. The pilgrims arriving on the Mayflower were hoping for religious freedom.

Causes: The main drive for the pilgrims was religious persecution they experienced in England , since it was illegal to be apart of any church besides the Church of England the separatists were forced out where they initially moved to Holland. However as their English identity started to disappear they decided to make a move to the Americas.

Social Impact: This started to solidify England's expansion into North America, in addition this would spark a great Puritan migration that would occur in the years to come as groups of Puritans and Separatists would flee to America in hopes of religious freedom. Interactions with the Indians helped the Pilgrims gain knowledge on the local crops that would help them survive.
