Description:

The coup of 1953 was backed by the CIA and was against the Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq, who was an outspoken supporter of nationalism and who had attempted, and nearly succeeded, in deposing the Shah. This lead to Iranian secular acholars starting to believe that it was possible to overthrow the Shah, and possibly bring back Khomeini.
