Description:
Garrod was the first person to apply Gregor Mendel's Principles of Inheritance to human disease.
Through lots of studies, he concluded that alkaptonuria was a recessive disorder, and published a book about it in 1902. This was the first published account of recessive inheritance in humans. Additionally, it was the first time a genetic disorder was attributed to errors or misteps in our body's chemical pathways.
