13th - December 6, 1865, Banned all slavery and involuntary servitude in all of the American states
14th - July 9, 1868, Guaranteed citizenship to all persons who were born or naturalized in the U.S. Helped define national citizenship.
15th - February 3, 1870, 2 sections. One stated that all citizens have the right to vote regardless of race or color. The other said that the Congress had power to enforce their legislation.
Causes - Following the Civil War these documents were drafted to protect the recently emancipated slaves. This was one of the Union's main goals going into the war and these amendments helped fulfill it.
Historical impact - These 3 amendments were enacted to guarantee the rights of recently freed African Americans. Although the amendments did not have a great initial impact they helped give abolitionism momentum.
