Description - The independent nation of Texas was inhabited by large amounts of Americans who thought annexing into the states was a good idea. The annexation caused a lot of controversy within the country as well as with others.

Causes - A part of Manifest Destiny and important land for farming and expansion. Southern states wanted annexation because Texas was also a slave state.

Historical impact - Created tension between the U.S. and Mexico because they wanted to keep Texas.
