Description - The election included Abraham Lincoln who was a representative of the Union who opposed slavery. The southern states did not want him to be elected in fear of what he would do to their beloved slaves.
Causes - It was time for the U.S. to elect a new president. This election was critical because it had a big effect on the potential future of slavery.
Historical impact - Was a big component in the start of a civil war. Once Lincoln won the election the south was bitter and many of them stated to secede from the rest.
