jan 1, 1920 - USA Foreign Policy (After the Treaty of Versailles) A m e r i c a

Description:

USA's policy was one of fear and isolationism as they attempted to cut all ties with the outside world, especially the European nations. Fear of a fruitless future war is what cause such isolationism. This was clear when USA did not ratify the Treaty of Versailles and rejected the the League of nations along with the International Court of Justice. They even became politically isolated as they stopped attending conference meetings and treaty meetings between other countries. Economic isolation existed was very apparent as America increased taxes (tariffs) on products being sold to them. This was through the Fordney McCumber act of 1922. Immigration was slowed down as well to as little as 150 000 a year by 1929. When Woodrow lost the election, the rise of a new leader, Warren Harding became the fuel to the fire of isolationism as he made made America into what it was back then with the support of all the people who felt betrayed by Woodrow's decisions.
