Description:
Invented by ELi Whitney, it allowed the user to seperate 50 times more cotton than a worker could do by hand.
Causes: Cotton was a major cash crop gaining the nickname “King Cotton.” Therefore, it became necessary to speed up the process rather than just using purely slaves.
Historical Impact: The cotton gin actually increased the number of slaves imported before the ban the slave trade. The gin demanded more labor than actually reducing it.
