Description:

Treaty that ended the Mexican American War as well as granting the Mexican Cession to the U.S., recognized the Rio Grande as the Texan border, and paved way the way to the Gadsden Purchase. The new territories acquired created conflicts over decided on how to deal with slavery in the West. Many of these issues were temporarily dealt with in the Compromise of 1850, but they were never nullified enough to prevent war.
