After the election of 1860, where Republican candidate Lincoln was declared the next president of the United States, many southerns feared the practice slavery was going to be short lived, so beginning with South Carolina near the end of 1860, all of the soon-to-be Confederate states began seceding. The succession of these states led to civil war from the North's desire to perserve the Union
