The Emancipation Proclamation was issued by Abraham Lincoln when he decided to free the slaves. This document stated that the African American Legal status would change. After this was put into action, slaves were no longer slaves and they had liberties ad were treated better than they ever had been. This began the beginning of the fight for equal rights in all ethnicities and genders.
