On March 15, 44 BC, a date known as the Ides of March, a group of Senators attacked Caesar in the Senate and stabbed him to death. The men were afraid that Caesar would become king. At the funeral service, people of Rome formed mobs and attacked the houses of the Senators. The attackers had not made a solid plan for what would happen after the murder.
