Description:
Saigo Takamori on September 24 1877, was one of the most influential Samurai in Japanese history. He was one of the three great nobles who led the Meiji Restoration.
The Samurai class existed in Japan for over a thousand years. The Samurai followed the code of Bushido that taught them to value personal honour above everything. This changed and shaped Japanese warriors even after the Samurai period. They valued honour to an extreme extent that they would commit Supuku. This was a ritual suicide, to regain honour or to enhance their reputation and be remembered as a great person who died a honourable death.
