Description:
During the first half of the century, gold in the form of gold nuggets was discovered in California causing settlement of hundreds of thousands of people. Causes - This caused a huge migration to the West and resulted in over 250 thousand people by the end of 1849. Impact - This also impacted the environment causing Rivers to become dammed or clogged with sediment, forests were logged to provide needed timber, and the land was torn up.
