- Description: Yale College is founded. It will not become a university until 1887. The college is located in New Haven, Connecticut and is home to many of the smartest students in the United States.
- Causes: Many wealthy young white men wanted to extend their education past high school so the United States began to build prestigious colleges in New England.
- Historical Impact: Yale is one of the very first colleges created in America -Harvard being first- and is known as an Ivy League. Without colleges in the United States it would be extremely difficult for people to further their education.
