Description:
Amendment that guaranteed basic citizenship to all American born people regardless of race or color.
Causes
The Federal government wanted to prevent the State governments in the South who prevented African Americans born in the United States.
Impact
Gave African Americans equal protection of the law as well as gave African Americans basic citizenship.
