Description:
(1906) TR made Congress pass Meat Inspection Act - benefited corporations & consumers; Decreed that prep of meat over state lines would be subject to fed inspection; Largest packers resisted certain features of act but mostly seen as opportunity to drive smaller competition out of business; Meat packers could get gov’t approval on exports; (1906) Pure Food and Drug Act - passed alongside meat inspect act, designed to prevent mislabeling of foods & pharmaceuticals
