15 days later Bunau-Varilla signed Hay-Bunau-Varilla Treaty in Wash, Price of canal strip left same but zone widened from 6-10 mi, French company got $40 mill from US treasury;
Roosevelt didn’t actively plot to remove Panama from Colombia; Lots of ppl thought he did tho; Marked downward relations w/ Latin Amer
