On the morning of August 16, the Khanaqin revolutionists, led by Karim Khurshid Bek, attacked the Bawa Mahmoud camp, where the British army was holed up after the arrival of the reinforcements.[31] A battle ensued between the two teams, ending with the defeat of the rebels, leaving 15 dead.[32]
