Bacteria name: Mycobacterium tuberculosis
Types of TB:
- Latent: Bacteria is in body but it is not active, will not be contagious and will not show symptoms. It could activate but it also couldn't. Treatment is important
- Active: The bacteria is active in the body and it is very contagious.
Symptoms:
Coughing that lasts three or more weeks, Coughing up blood, Chest pain, or pain with breathing or coughing, Unintentional weight loss, Fatigue, Fever, Night sweats, Chills, Loss of appetite
Treatment:
- Back in the ol' days: Happy thoughts, sitting out in the cold wrapped in blankets all the time, sun rooms (basking in the light), Couldn't move and were forced to lay on back at all times
- Now we have: Isoniazid, Rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane), Ethambutol (Myambutol), Pyrazinamide
