Conditions: Hot and dry, during the day time

Fatality Rates: 100 Deaths a day, 5k people died. Toxic phase fatal in 20-50%, 3-7.5% for regular. No treatment

Symptoms:
Phase 1: 3-4 days after, fever headache, vomiting, loss of appetite
Phase 2: Toxic phase, fever, hemorrhaging, vomiting, loss of kidney function, abdominal pain, jaundice

Important dates:
- New Orleans 1853, The worst epidemic, killed 9k, may - oct: 8,096 people died.
- Panama Canal 1882, french started in 1882 --> became too sick to work due to yellow fever --> sold it to the usa --> usa had preventable mosquito measures --> finished canal

Transmission:
- Stubbins Ffirth: Took the black "vomit" and drank it, smeared it into his cuts, and repeated experiments with urine (Doesn't get yellow fever)
- Jesse Lazear: Hatched eggs and puts them on top of yellow fever patients, goes to study volunteers and puts the mosquitoes on them --> didn't get yellow fever two days later does it again and they get yellow fever.
- Walter Reed Experiments: Infected clothes building: No mosquitoes only bad smells. Mosquito building: Voluenteers seperated with screen, one room has mosquitoes --> one doesn't. People with mosquitoes developed yellow fever.
