jan 1, 1540 - St. Ignatius Loyola (1540)

Description:

Loyola was a militant soldier for his Catholic faith, to which he was a devout follower and of which he wanted to create an order of able bodied intellectual men to participate in the affairs of the world and spread Catholicism. Thus he founded the Jesuits, a very important missionary force launching a ‘counteroffensive’ against Protestantism that was spreading over Europe. Overall, his dedication to his faith and the influencing the affairs of the world rank him among the top visionaries of the age and probably the top Catholic visionary of the century. (Palmer 95-97)
