jan 1, 1527 - Francis I (1527)

Description:

Francis I was one of the greatest artisans for France that had ever been born, bringing new culture and Renaissance art, architecture, and improvements to Paris and France in general. He also was a major player on the international stage, forging a controversial alliance with Suleiman, constantly fighting with Charles V for Milan and other territories of Italy, and in a perpetual struggle with France’s age old enemy, England. He is more preeminent than any of his successors, such as Louis XI, because whereas Louis solidified France and its borders, Francis had bold tactics, such as allying with the Turks and aggressively seeking to expand his territory, all of which was necessary to survive under the acute threats of Charles V and Henry VIII.
