jan 1, 1513 - Pope Leo X (1513)
Description:
Leo X was the greatest of the Renaissance Popes, famous for saying, “God has given us the Papacy, let us enjoy it.” He was Pope during the early Reformation period, from 1513 to 1521, the first responsible for dealing with Luther and ultimately unsuccessful at preventing the spread of Protestantism. He is the most important of all the Medici popes because of his example of corruption and his failure to prevent the Reformation have made him an infamous figure in history. (Notes)
