jan 1, 1560 - Mercantilism (1560)
Description:
This idea was the forefront of economic thought of the time. It held that a country should have gold flowing into its coffers and finished goods being shipped away to its colonies/trading partners (it emphasized exports over imports). This commercial idea would come to define the economics of the time, with new ideas of setting the poor to work and opposition towards antiquated guilds. (Palmer 113)
