jan 1, 1534 - Act of Supremacy (1534)
Description:
This bill, a resolution passed by the English Parliament, provided the crown of England as the supreme head of the English church. It was representative of the official break between the English church and the Catholic church, freeing Henry VIII to divorce his wives and accomplish his purpose of producing a male heir. It is important to note that until Elizabeth I, the English church never really became Protestant as Henry VIII had no intentions, at least at first, of any doctrinal changes within the church. (Palmer 88)
